Home for Children
Home for Children

This is The JOY Home for children which is a small, family-style group home located in the village of Bareshani, just outside of Bitola, North Macedonia. The JOY Home is more than just a house - it will be a safe place for as many as six children to be fed, cared for, and loved. The staff in the home are well-educated and will make this house a warm, loving space for the children. The ground floor is handicap accessible making this home functional for orphans with special needs. The house itself is situated on ⅔ of an acre of land, providing the children in the home with plenty of space outside to run and play in their safely fenced in yard. The goal of this home is to provide more than just shelter for orphans, but to also provide an environment conducive to their health and healing.

The vision for The JOY Home includes the ability for the children to live in a family style environment - complete with a therapy dog and a large yard in which they can run and play. Many of the children who will reside in The JOY Home have special needs and will require extra care - physical therapists, occupational therapists, doctors, and other support professionals. Additionally, they will have 24 hour care by house parents - complete with food, wheelchairs, accessible bathrooms, etc. for children with special needs. Imagine children who have lived their entire lives in an institution, getting to make cookies for the very first time! Pet their new dog! Or celebrate their birthday with a party just for them! One-by-one, these precious children will find hope through the gifts you give.

Just as in the USA, when new programs begin, training and education are needed. One topic that is very important in regards to previous or currently institutionalized children is Attachment Disorder! Jennifer Naskov, the co-founder of Lighthouse of Hope MK, is a certified trainer in attachment and develops training for the staff of the local orphanage, as well as The JOY Home for children. Her training will also be available to people who become foster families of orphans here in North Macedonia!

The many emotional needs of orphans are also included within our educational projects. Nastassia Naskov, daughter of Zoran and Jennifer, trains emotional care dogs. These dogs will provide an outlet for children healthy or with special needs, to experience total, unconditional love! Especially when a small child cannot put into words all of their emotions, they can embrace a loving companion.
