Foster and Adoptive Family Support
Foster and Adoptive Family Support

An important aspect of orphan care is providing support to children who have been adopted or placed in foster families. In North Macedonia, where fostering is a relatively new concept, there are many opportunities to help. Lighthouse of Hope MK seeks to provide these resources in several ways.

Our founders are certified Empowered to Connect foster parent trainers and have taught several courses in foster parenting in the United States and trained families who were preparing for adoption. Through this training, they are able to offer encouragement, provide support, and teach new skills to families who are about to adopt a child from an institution or group home. Alternatively, for those who have already taken their child home and are facing the joys and hardships that come with that process - this training offers a sense of support while the knowledge can help them work through current situations.

In addition to Empowered to Connect, Jennifer Naskov, our Executive Director, is a Trust Based Relational Intervention practitioner, and provides training to parents and staff who will be working with children from hard places and have trauma backgrounds. This training will be given to all caregivers at the Lighthouse of Hope MK group homes, and will also be offered to families who are seeking help in knowing how to nurture their special needs infant or child.

Lighthouse of Hope MK also offers long-term support by answering questions related to foster care, pre-adoption preparation, and post-adoption struggles. With experienced listeners who have seen many struggles in their time as foster and adoptive parents, been through classes and training sessions, and have a heart for orphan care, we are able to answer questions that might otherwise get overlooked or remain unanswered. We are here to listen to the struggles and celebrate the victories of foster and adoptive families all around the globe.

We also have an extensive library of books, CDs, and DVDs centered around fostering, orphan care, and parenting children from hard places. Cultural appreciation and awareness is also something very important to us at Lighthouse of Hope MK, and we encourage any and all of our staff to read and be aware of the culture where they live and work. Our library also has books about interacting with people from different cultures and appreciating the richness of the world around us.
